Best selling strategies

Hi Folks,

As a book content coach, I get frequent questions from clients about Amazon and Barnes and Noble campaigns. I've used the strategy successfully to help clients achieve great sales with their books. Right now I have a client who is wanting to use a POD system in order to control costs. He wants to do a bestseller campaign, which I think could work for Amazon and BN. However, he is also interested in the possibility of the NYT list. As I understand it, the NYT list only tracks sales in bookstores, and thus widespread retail distribution is necessary, meaning that a POD strategy cannot work for NYT. Is this correct? The reason I'm asking is that another "book expert" told me that it USED to be the case that NYT only made its decisions based on bookstore sales, but that that has now changed and that POD can be used. Since I always thought that POD was not amenable to NYT, this assertion came as a bit of a surprise, so I thought I'd check it out with anyone here on the Morgan James site who might be able to shed some light on the current state of affairs regarding POD campaigns.

Thanks,
Sharon

It seems that this system of partnering with successful email lists is a popular way to market one's book. I listened to Peggy McColl's teleseminar about just this. After you pay the initial amount and go thru several weeks of seminars you will be ready to start this program. I like the idea that they guarantee your best seller status on Barnes and Noble or Amazon.com. I would love some others opinion on this or programs similar..carol

Hi Carol,

Peggy McColl is a good friend of mine. Her bestselling mentoring program is excellent and I highly recommend it.

My original question in this thread was about the NYT list and whether POD books qualify. As far as I know, the NYT (as opposed to Amazon and BN) count bookstore sales, not sales generated by the internet. If that's the case, for the NYT the author would need bookstore distribution. However, I've been hearing that this has recently changed, and that NYT will allow internet-generated sales numbers, but I've been unable to verify if this is the case. Does anyone have any information on this?

Hi, Sharon:
Last Friday, when I was interviewing John Kremer, author of 1001 Ways to Market Your Books, on a Published & Profitable member teleseminar, I asked him what he thought of Amazon Best Seller promotions.

His answer was very interesting.

Without saying "yes" or "no," he stressed that the ultimate value of working with others to create an Amazon.com best seller is in the relationships with other websites that you create. In other words, how high your book goes isn't the issue: the issue is whether or not you continue to "prime the pump" by working with those who propelled your book to success and generate a consistent flow of sales.

Like everything else, I guess, consistency is the key to success.

Hope this helps. Roger
